This book was published in 1775 (Yeongjo 51) by Lee, Deuk-Mu (李德懋, 1741〜1793), a scholar in the later Joseon to teach everyday courtesy which should be followed by scholars, women, and children. A total of 624 articles are recorded in 8 volumes: 5 volumes titled ‘Courtesy for Scholars’; 2 volumes titled ‘Courtesy for Women’; and 1 volume titled ‘Discipline for Children’. This is also included in his anthology 『Cheungjanggwanjeonseo』.\n “So-Jeol” means basic courtesy. Lee quoted 『the Book of Document(書經)』 saying that “When you are careless with a small demeanor, you eventually spoil a big demeanor,” and mentioned his intention of publishing this book is to educate home courtesies. \n A chapter on women courtesy has 205 articles grouped into 8 subtitles: personality, conduct, language, clothing and food, manner, education, human duties, ancestral rites, and miscellaneous. \n What is worthy of noticing is that he mentioned it is okay for a wife, even a scholar’s wife, to be a breadwinner if her family is financially strapped. He encouraged such wives to earn income by weaving, silk forming, raising ducks and chickens, and selling sauces, cooking oils, and fruits. Also he advised to shy away from story books, and instead encouraged to read sculptures and history books and learn history of one’s own family. Encouraging women labor and recognizing general knowledge reflect change of time."@en ; dcterms:alternative "사소절"@ko ; dcterms:date "英祖54(1775)" ; dcterms:dateSubmitted "2020-11-30"^^xsd:date ; dcterms:issued "1775" ; dcterms:title "Sasojeol"@en , "士小節" , "사소절"@ko ; schema:category eadlcollection:NLK_Women_in_the_Joseon_era , eadlcollection:NLK_Women_Education , eadlcollection:KoreaCollection ; schema:datePublished "2020-11-30"^^xsd:date ; owl:sameAs ; foaf:thumbnail .
