20 lives of women in Joseon were included in the appendix of this book, which introduces brief biographies, anecdotes, and poems of 212 figures (192 male) from the late 16th century to the mid 18th century in a chronological order.
This book, published during the King Yeongjo(Rein:1724~1776)’s rein, has 7 variations, which implies its popularity among the general public. This collection housed in the National Library of Korea has the largest number of figures, 211, also with the largest number of female figures, 20. These women’s lives span from the late Goryeo to the mid Joseon, and achievements and lives of a shaman, a nameless countrywoman, and a minister’s wife are described. This book has its value as Joseon’s first brief biography of women.

조선의 여성 인물 20명이 부록으로 실린 책이다. 이 책은 16세기 후반부터 18세기 중반까지의 인물 총 212명(남성 192명)의 간략한 전기, 일화, 시(詩)와 얽힌 이야기를 인물의 시대순으로 엮은 책이다.
영조(재위:1724~1776) 대에 편찬된 이 책은 내용이 조금씩 다른 책들이 7종이나 있어서 민간에 널리 읽힌 것으로 보인다. 각 이본에 수록된 인물들을 모두 합치면 212명인데, 국립중앙도서관 소장본이 211명으로 가장 많으며 여성 인물도 20명으로 가장 많다.
여성 인물은 고려 말부터 조선 중기까지의 무녀, 이름 없는 시골 여성, 정승 부인 등의 활동상을 소개했다.
이 책은 조선 최초로 여성들의 간략 전기가 수록되었다는 점에서 귀중한 의미가 있다.
