This book is a praise of the charity of Buddha that enlightens all the humans. The cover says “Wol-in-cheong-gang-ji-gok,” but it actually includes “Eo-je-hunminjeongeum,” “Seok-bo-sang-jeol,” and “Wol-in-seok-bo-seo” as well. “Wol-in-seok-bo” is a bound volume of “Wol-in-cheon-gang-ji-gok” by King Sejong and “Seok-bo-sang-jeol” by King Sejo, so in conclusion, this edition is “Wol-in-seok-bo” with “Hunminjeongeum” added. “Seok-bo-sang-jeol” is a book dedicated after the death of Queen Soheon, wife of King Sejong for Sejong asked Sejo (Prince Suyang then) to publish. “Wol-in-cheon-gang-ji-gok” is a praise by King Sejong after reading “Seok-bo-sang-jeol.”(en)
이 책은 모든 중생을 교화하는 석가(釋迦)의 공덕을 노래한 것으로 표지서명은 「월인천강지곡(月印千江之曲)」으로 되어 있지만, 이외에「어제훈민정음(御製訓民正音)」,「석보상절(釋譜詳節)」「월인석보서(月印釋譜序)」가 합본된 판본이다.
「월인석보(月印釋譜)」는 세종의 「월인천강지곡」과 세조의 「석보상절」을 합본한 것이므로 이 책은 「월인석보」판본에 「훈민정음」을 첨가한 것이라 할 수 있다.
「석보상절」은 세종이 소헌왕후(昭憲王后)가 돌아가자, 왕후를 위해 당시 수양대군이던 세조에게 석가의 일대기를 편찬하게 하여 완성된 것이고, 「월인천강지곡」은 세종이 「석보상절」을 보고 감동하여 지은 찬송(讚頌)이다.(ko)
