Its cover is a yellow paper with lotus and vine painted on a background repetitive patterns, and its title “enormous and great grace(恩重經).” Chinese yam thread was used for binding. Publication notes and engravers’ names inscribed confirm that the literature was printed at Gwangdeok Temple(廣德寺) in Cheonan in 1555 (Myeongjong 10).
『Parents’ Enormous and Great Grace (父母恩重經)』 does not have its original text in Sanskrit or Pa-li, and is known as a pseudepigraphic text from China. It was published to instill Chinese with Buddhist thought, with Confucianism as a ground.

부모의 은혜가 한량없이 크고 깊음을 나타낸 부모의십중대은(十重大恩)과 그 은혜에 보답할 것을 가르친 경전이다. 이 책은 회문 바탕에 연당초문이 있는 황지표지에 마사로 편철되었고, 표지서명은 “은중경(恩重經)”이다. 간기와 각수가 새겨져 있어 명종 10(1555)년 천안(天安) 광덕사(廣德寺) 간본임을 알 수 있다.
본래 『부모은중경(父母恩重經)』은 범어(梵語)나 팔리[Pa-li]어(語) 원전이 없고, 중국에서 만든 일종의 위경(僞經)으로 알려져 있다. 이는 유학에 바탕을 두고서 불교사상을 중국인에게 교화시키기 위한 일종의 방편으로 편찬된 것이다.
인간의 기본 규범이라 할 효도를 불교적인 안목으로 이해하고 가르친 책이므로 유교 사회에 있어서의 불교의 사회적 기능 및 소임을 연구하는 데 귀중한 자료가 된다.
