Old print edition. One of Keichō Emperor’s rescripts published by Emperor Go-Yōzei during the Keichō period. Large yet elegant letters are impressive. Woodblocks are thought to be used based on its print sides. 『The Classic of Filial Piety』had been lost long ago in China, while after its introduction to Japan during the Nara period, it won respect as a book of ethics and virtue. Old printed edition of 『The Classic of Filial Piety』had been allegedly produced with printing press which came in later from Josun by the order of Emperor Go-Yōzei in autumn, Bunroku 2 (1593), before creation of this collection, yet the copies have not been recovered yet.(en)
