‘Heung Bu Jeon’ is a needless-to-say hit of pansori novel. All we know is that it was written in Joseon era, and the exact author or published time is unknown. Various editions exist but this particular one is historically valuable, because of its publisher and the ‘six coin novel’ label. This edition was published by Sin Mun Gwan, which was the first modern publishing house of Joseon established by Choi Nam Seon in 1908. One of the many projects Sin Mun Gwan worked on was distributing well-known classical novels in an inexpensive price to the public. ‘Six coin novels’ were called so because they were priced six coins at that time. This book basically criticizes the evil deeds of Nol Bu and emphasizes the family virtues such as loving your parents and siblings. But in reality, the biggest delivery point was to deliver humor to the readers by making fun of Nol Bu.(en)
