Each volume of this collection has title page attached that reads [Kusudo] Compendium of Materia Medica. Imprints of ‘Hako Books,’ ‘housed in Sakakibara Yoshino (now abolished)’, and ‘Collection of Tokyo Library’ sit on the front page of volume 1. Copies with imprint of Hako Books were owned by Tazawa Chuzo (Nakanobu, ?~1850), doctor of the Edo bakufu, and have the text’s history authored by Chuzo at the end of volume 27. This imprint and the history of the book imply that this collection was dedicated to the Taki clan for which he served as a chief of the bakufu’s medical center. (Title page was attached maybe as a benchmark of Kusudo, which is respected as the highest regarded publication of『Compendium of Materia Medica』), and later possessed by Sakakibara Yoshino, and ended up at the Tokyo Library (former this library). The first printed edition of『Compendium of Materia Medica』is referred to as Geumneung edition, following the record of ‘Print block of Koshoryo, studied in Geumneung ‘ placed at the end of 집서성씨 volume 1. And the same record is found in the same location of this collection, which surely implies that this collection is also Geumneung edition. The only difference is the 8 pages of manuscript in the body of this collection. Surviving entire copies of Geumneung edition is few now, with only 7 surviving entire copies (some with photos of lost sections). 4 out of them are in Japan currently: 1.
