Abstract: Most women were illiterate as late as the 20th century. That’s why many of remaining literatures on women are about or for women from the middle or higher classes. Even literatures once damaged and restored were replaced by female roles and images given by male viewpoints. Therefore, we need to listen to women’s unedited voices to restore women’s lost history. Thoughts and minds expressed with candor in a confession written by a woman who opted out of forced suicide after her husband’s death and literatures of different genres authored by gisaeng are all the more intriguing. 20세기 초까지 대다수 여성은 문맹 상태였다. 그래서 현재 남아있는 여성 관련 자료도 대부분 중상층 여성의 것이 많은 편이다. 또 사료에서 간신히 복구한 정보 역시 남성이 보는 방식에 의해 덧칠해진 여성의 역할과 이미지로 가득하다. 그러므로 여성의 역사를 살려내기 위해서는 여성의 목소리를 직접 들어볼 필요가 있다. 남편이 죽은 뒤 자결하지 않은 어느 여성의 고백서나 기생들이 여러 문학 작품의 형식을 통해 드러낸 솔직한 생각과 심리가 흥미롭다.(ko)
