- Abstract
- Nujeong (樓亭) refer to nugak (樓閣) and jeongja (亭子), which are types of pavilion or traditional Korean gazebo. A nugak is a building constructed one story above the ground in order to offer a panoramic view in all directions and a jeongja is a more simply structured wooden building comprised of only pillars and a roof without walls. Nujeong, which were generally built in a relatively high place to present a view to appreciate great scenery and beautiful nature, served as a venue for relaxation and a rural retreat, as well as for social gatherings and poetry composition. Scholars of the past visited nujeong to enjoy nature, meditation, reading, and academic exchanges. On auspicious occasions, they entertained guests by hosting gatherings and banquets such as gyehoe (契會) and banghoe (榜會) at nujeong, where they also tested their archery and martial arts skills. This collection sheds light on the literary heritage regarding the nujeong, including simun (詩文, poetic literature), gasa (歌辭, prose poems), and gimun (記文, documentary literature), as well as nature and cultural life in the Joseon Dynasty.(en)
누정(樓亭)은 누각과 정자를 일컫는다. 누각(樓閣)은 사방을 바라볼 수 있도록 마룻바닥을 땅에서 한층 높게 지은 다락 형태의 건물이며, 정자(亭子)는 벽이 없이 기둥과 지붕만 있는 보다 간소한 구조의 목조 건물이다. 풍광이 좋거나 아름다운 자연을 조망할 수 있는 비교적 높은 곳에 세워진 누정은 휴식과 풍류생활을 위한 공간으로 이용되었고, 사교와 모임 공간, 시문 창작의 산실이 되기도 하였다. 옛 선비들은 누정에서 음풍농월(吟風弄月)하며 자연과 일체되는 낙을 즐기거나 조용히 독서와 사색하고 학문을 교류하였다. 때로는 계회(契會), 방회(榜會)나 연회를 베풀면서 여러 사람들이 함께 즐기는 모임 장소로 활용하였고, 활쏘기를 수련하고 군사 훈련을 점검하는 공간으로도 삼았다. 본 컬렉션에서는 누정에 관해 옛 지식인들이 남긴 시문, 가사, 기문(記文) 등의 기록을 살펴보고 조선시대 풍광과 풍류생활을 조명해 보도록 한다.(ko)
